PLGC Etiquette
1. Respect and Courtesy
  • Patrons must treat fellow golfers, staff, and guests with respect and courtesy at all times.
  • Negative, abusive, or discriminatory language and behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Patrons should act in a manner that does not disrupt or disturb others’ enjoyment of the game.
2. Proper Attire
  • Patrons are expected to adhere to the club’s dress code. Collared shirts are encouraged as are appropriate golf pants or shorts.
  • Men – Shirts Must have sleeves
  • Ladies – Skirts must be no shorter than mid-thigh, tank tops with thin straps, racerbacks (unless part of a golf-designed top), or halter tops should not be permitted.
3. Golf Course Etiquette
  • Pace of Play: Patrons should play at an appropriate pace and be mindful of the group behind them. Keep up with the group ahead and be ready to play your shot when it’s your turn. Proper pace of play for a foursome is four hours at PLGC.
  • Repairing Damage: Patrons should repair any divots, ball marks, and bunkers after use.
  • Safety: Always be aware of your surroundings and ensure that no one is in harm’s way before taking a shot.
  • Mobile Phones: Mobile phones should be used discreetly and not interfere with the play or the experience of others. Phones should be set to silent mode while on the course.
4. Clubhouse Conduct
  • Patrons should maintain a respectful attitude and demeanor while in the clubhouse.
  • Smoking and alcohol consumption should follow the club’s policies. No outside food or beverage is permitted on-site at Portage Lake Golf Course.
5. Guest Policy
  • Patrons are encouraged to bring guests to the course, but they should ensure that their guests are aware of and abide by the club’s rules and etiquette.
  • Guests should be properly signed in at the pro shop or clubhouse, as per club policy.
6. Golf Course Conditions
  • Patrons are expected to respect course, maintenance, and conditions. Leaving the course in better condition than found.
  • Ensure that golf carts are used properly, following all rules regarding where they can be driven. Carts should not be nearer than 20 yards from tees and greens.
7. Environment and Wildlife
  • Respect the natural surroundings of the golf course, including wildlife and plants.
  • Dispose of waste in designated trash bins and avoid littering on the course.
8. Disciplinary Actions
  • Violations of the Code of Conduct may lead to disciplinary action, which can range from a warning to suspension or even termination of membership.
