Eligibility
No. The Experience Tech fee is required from all enrolled students, even if the student doesn’t participate in any events. Although some students may choose not to participate in events for legitimate reasons, the Experience Tech fee benefits all students because the fee is designed to get students more involved in campus life, promote campus spirit, and create a sense of belonging for al students. With so many different venues and events within the Experience Tech program, we’re hopeful that students will find something to enjoy.
Yes, part-time students are included.
University employees receiving tuition benefit are not assessed the fee or eligible to receive the associated benefits.
Yes, you are. “Dual enrolled” means that you are still in high school, approved for the dual enrolled program, and taking classes at Michigan Tech which makes you eligible for Experience Tech. Please note that it is not an option for summer sessions. Contact experiencetech@mtu.edu if you are a dual enrollment student and would like to partake in the Experience Tech program.

No. As an enrolled student, the Experience Tech benefits apply just to you. However, your spouse/designated partner and/or dependents would have some similar benefits under the Michigan Tech Student Spouse and/or Dependent ID Card Program.

Fees
When the Experience Tech Fee was implemented in 2008 it was agreed that the program and fee would be reviewed to determine the program’s success and continuation. The Experience Tech Fee Committee reviews yearly student usages, operating expenses and the student satisfaction survey to assess if a change in the fee is necessary.
In acknowledgment that undergraduate students’ usage of the Experience Tech benefits is at a higher rate than that of graduate students, the Experience Tech Committee requested a differential fee. The differential rate for students is reviewed annually and supported by both the USG and the GSG.
Physical education classes that take place at the Experience Tech venues have a greatly reduced lab fee. The lab fee you are paying for, covers items like instructor time and equipment that is not at the actual venue. The Experience Tech fee does cover your use of the venue but does not include rental equipment while at that location.
All students pay for fees as instituted by the Board of Trustees. It provides students the opportunity to experience all Michigan Tech has to offer.
No. Michigan Tech students already receive free admission to football, basketball, women’s soccer and volleyball. All you need is your valid Michigan Tech HuskyCard for admission to all home events.
Experience Tech Fee: This fee improves student access to facilities and sporting events. It replaces revenue from individual student ticket sales and fees to support operational costs at the Mont Ripley Ski Hill, Portage Lake Golf Course, Gates Tennis Center, intramural sports, Visual and Performing Arts department events, hockey games, etc.
Student Activity Fee: This fee pays for activities of the Undergraduate Student Government and the Graduate Student Council. The funds are distributed among student organizations, the USG, and the GSC.
Use
Yes. For safety reasons, students will likely be turned away if venues are too crowded. Attendance through the Experience Tech program to all events are reserved on a “first come first serve basis.” To guarantee admission to some of the venues, students can pre purchase $5 tickets to Michigan Tech Hockey games, obtain free tickets to Michigan Tech Theatre and Music performances presented by the Visual and Performing Arts Department, and obtain free tickets to Rozsa Performing Series performances. Students who paid for or reserved tickets in advance will receive priority.
- You have access to the Experience Tech venues for the semester in which you have paid the fee after your enrollment is confirmed.
- If you pay the fee in the fall semester, your access begins two Saturdays before the start of classes.
- If you pay the fee in the spring semester, you will have access to the venues starting January 1 through the following summer sessions.
- If you are graduating from Michigan Tech or are not continuing your enrollment at Michigan Tech, your Experience Tech benefits remain active for Fall until Dec 31 and for Spring until August 31 following your last enrolled semester.
Hockey tickets are limited so that faculty, staff, alumni/ae, and the community also have an opportunity to purchase tickets and attend games. Doing so promotes community spirit and ensures support for events which benefits all students. Experience Tech tickets are for regular season games. Playoff tickets are subject to availability.
- Tickets through Experience Tech only cover seating in the student section. If your friend has purchased a ticket outside of the student Experience Tech area, you will have to purchase tickets to sit next to them.
- If you want to sit next to a friend in the Experience Tech seating area, it is best for both the student and friend to enter the ET student entrance at the same time as seats open next to each other are not guaranteed.
No. The only time a limit will be put on Experience Tech tickets for a Visual and Performing Arts event is if all the seats are filled.
You will get a daily pass each time you visit Mont Ripley.
No, ski and snowboard rentals are not included in the fee. See Mont Ripley’s cost to rent snowboard and ski equipment.
There is equipment available for rent at these venues, but it is not included in the fee. Reference the Gates Tennis Center rental rates and the Portage Golf Course rental rates.
